6 Challenges Faced By Ar App Developers

Dev & Design Development

Augmented reality refers to the integration of user’s real environment along with the digital information. It is not like VR (virtual reality) which uses completely imaginary surrounding. AR uses the existing environment. It was first used by a scientist in 1990 and now is used by people I devices like heads-up in car windshield and Google Glass.
Talking about the augmented reality development, it is growing more than ever at a very rapid pace. While the market value in 2016 was worth 725 million dollars, its current value is estimated to be 15.497 billion dollars in 2022. The reason why AR apps are more popular than VR is that it uses a very user-friendly interface and gives the user all time real experience since the environment is derived from practical life examples. Not only in the field of gaming but has AR also been of great help in the field of mental health treatment. But with all these benefits come challenges, it is easier said than done but actually developing AR apps is of great difficulty. Given are some common challenges that one faces during AR app development.

1. AR is all about imposing the quality visual data on the environment that has been captured by user’s camera. The problem that the developer faces is that the mobile’s camera is 2-D and to create great visuals and hybrid reality 3-D images are needed.

2. GPS (Global Positioning Service) has become an important part of our lives. GPS and GIS combine to make the Geospatial technology. To create AR apps we need very accurately working GPS system. For the apps to run properly, one must have accurate geological information. Camera performance can be improved by the use of the 2-D QR and barcodes. In case of the location inaccuracies, landmarks serve a great purpose.

3. Even though the A industry has evolved a lot, still there is one challenge that developers face. The AR apps are developed to be used on mobile phones, tablets, pc, gears or some wearable / portable device which allows only single use to experience at a time. This usability issue still persists. With the ever-growing development of the AR industry, the developers need to solve this problem such that the apps work no matter how many users are there. A game called “invisible train” has been developed by a team at Graz University of technology, which uses 4 players.

4. Meanwhile talking about hardware problems, developers also face software problems. Many solutions like Google’s ARcore and apple’s ARkit have been brought up to ease the difficulty of developers. The basic infrastructure and framework that developers use another issue are there is no integration of social media with AR browsers. So developers need to focus on software issues as well.

5. Another major conflict in AR app development is the legalization of information can e questioned anytime under the new laws and regulations like GDPR. The copyright over the information has become a hiccup, like no wonder anytime the owner of the space or say the building might question over the information provided in the AR app, wanting its right. Also, the developers will have to take the legal responsibility for the events that are influenced by the apps, for example, the AR app Pokémon go resulted in deaths and damages to many of its users. But who is to be blamed? In this process of solving the legal issues and making things work out, developers might lose their rights and reserves.

6. Augmented reality app has a lot of potential in future as well. Developers face a challenge regarding social acceptability. But in a drop of a hat, all these problems will look like past and augmented reality apps will bring the boom in the technology world.
