Key Facts About Selecting a Unified Communications Platform

unified communication

No matter what industry you are in, you can probably benefit from using unified communications or UC. This technology combines all communications into one service, platform or application. It allows users to phone, fax, virtually meet and perform other communication-related tasks using the same user interface. UC saves time and money, but how do you know how to select the right service for your company?

Selecting the Right UC Company

Several companies provide unified communications solutions with more popping up every day. It may be difficult to select the right company based solely on pricing alone. A low-cost plan might not offer all of the services you want, and a higher cost plan may have you paying for services that you never use.

Try writing down everything that you want your UC company to do for you. This could be things like fax, email, messaging, video conferencing and VOIP phone systems. Then look at how much you have budgeted for your UC service. Next, make a list of companies that offer the services you want and choose what works best for you.

Deployment Models Explained

A deployment model is how the UC services are delivered to your company. There are two basic types of deployment models.

Virtualized Deployment Model
In virtualized deployment, each user gets their own software to customize as they see fit. You can also combine physical servers with cloud servers using this method. Although it works great for large companies, it might not be suitable for small businesses that do not need full customization.

Multi-tenancy Deployment Model
In multi-tenancy, all users of a business share the same software. This means one person customizes it, and other users cannot change the preferences. This is better and sometimes less expensive for small businesses to use.
No matter which company you choose, they should be able to help you migrate to their services with little or no trouble. Most UC platforms are user friendly and customizable to meet your needs.
